Fonds consists of thematic Guide 1206 and Parish Registers, Volume 1, containing a summary of the marriages, divorces, and conversions recorded in this unit. Personal files of Rabbi Monson, consisting of his World War II Chaplaincy files; conversion, marriage and divorce records and certificates; correspondence with John Diefenbaker and other political figures; correspondence with major Canadian public figures and institutions; congratulatory telegrams and Rosh Hashana greeting cards. (Volumes 1-2)

Monson, David, 1917-2008 : Born in Ottawa, Rabbi David Monson (b.1917) was educated at Yeshiva University, 1934-1935, and was ordained by the Rabbinical College of Canada, Montreal in 1939. He was Rabbi of Shaarei Shomayim Synagogue in Toronto, 1939-1943. He served as a Chaplain with the Canadian Army Overseas, 1943-1945. After his return to Toronto, he founded Beth Shalom Synagogue in 1946. He served that congregation until his retirement in 1985, at which time he was appointed Rabbi Emeritus.

David Monson died in July 2008.
