Special television documentary which explores life along the South Saskatchewan River with narration and music by Ian and Sylvia Tyson. Various communities and lifestyles within this scenic landscape are profiled in addition to commentary on the historic background of the region. Filmed vignettes include: the Ellis family ranch where neighbouring cattlemen gather for a barbecue picnic after rounding up wild horses; scenes of calf-roping and bronco-busting; tourists on the terrace of the Banff Springs Hotel; a jet boat ride along the river to Calgary; rooftop dancing on a Calgary highrise; 80-year-old William Shaw and his riverside homestead; the prairie town of Elbow, Saskatchewan; a Lutheran church service; construction on the South Saskatchewan Dam project; and scenes from the local Legion Hall where workers gather for a dance. Additional footage of the Columbia Icefields, Bow River Valley, and Alberta Badlands. Commentary and footage are interspersed with musical numbers performed by Ian and Sylvia at various locales, including the University of Saskatoon. <60mn>
