Live fourteen-part television coverage of the 1963 federal election returns with hosts Bruce Marsh and Norman DePoe. Results from provincial ridings across the country are announced as the polls close with commentary from the following regional reporters: Kingsley Brown in Halifax; Douglas Brophy in St. John's; Berton Lewis in Charlottetown; Bill Cooper in Saint John; James M. Minifie in Montreal; Tom Gould in Toronto; Warner Troyer in Winnipeg; Craig Oliver in Regina; Ian MacDonald in Edmonton; Harry Nuttall in Vancouver; and Rex Loring at International Business Machines Toronto headquarters, the source of computerized election projections and results. Additional reporters include: Ron LaPlante at Progressive Conservative Party headquarters and Tom Earle at Liberal Party headquarters in Ottawa; Bill Herbert at New Democratic Party headquarters in British Columbia, David Cruikshank at Social Credit Party headquarters in Red Deer, Alberta; and Larry Glover in Prime Minister Diefenbaker's home constituency of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.~Knowlton Nash moderates a studio panel which provides commentary and analysis throughout the evening, consisting of Dr. Eugene Forsey of the Canadian Labour Congress; Montreal editor Pierre de Bellefeuille; and political science professor Peter Regenstrief.~Interviews with candidates, both victorious and defeated, include: Liberal Paul Hellyer of Trinity, Toronto; Liberal Mitchell Sharp of Toronto-Eglington; Liberal Charles Drury of St. Antoine-Westmount; Liberal Jack Pickersgill of Bonavista-Twillingate; New Democrat David Lewis of York-South; Liberal Paul Martin of Essex East; Liberal Lionel Chevrier of Montreal-Laurier; Conservative Douglas Harkness of Calgary North; Conservative Gordon Churchill of Winnipeg Centre; Conservative Marcel Lambert of Edmonton West; New Democrat Stanley Knowles of Winnipeg North Centre; Conservative Richard Bell of Carleton; Conservative Leon Balcer of Trois Rivières; Social Credit Party member Gerard Perron; and a voice-over recording of remarks by defeated Conservative Howard Green of Vancouver-Quadra.~In addition there is international response to the election, via satellite from London and Paris, where Donald Gordon and Stanley Burke interview Robert MacKenzie of the University of London and Edouard [Savier], foreign editor of the newspaper Candide. Response from the United States comes from Senator Gale McGee of Wyoming.~Film clips include: voters at polling stations in Regina; supporters gathered outside CKBI television station in Prince Albert where Prime Minister John G. Diefenbaker has just delivered a televised statement; and statements from party leaders Robert Thompson of the Social Credit Party, Tommy Douglas of the New Democratic Party, Lester Pearson of the Liberal Party, and Real Caouette, deputy leader of the Social Credit Party.~At twenty minute intervals cut-ins occur from the Toronto metro area returns with host Lloyd Robertson and anchor Paddy Gregg. Bruce Rogers updates the results from local ridings and Art Robson conducts man-on-the-street interviews outside IBM headquarters. Howard Summerville interviews local candidates including: Liberal Steven Otto of York East; Liberal Dr. Stanley Haidasz of Parkdale; Liberal Ian Wahn of St. Paul's; Conservative Joel Cameron of High Park; Conservative Miss Miles of Davenport; New Democrat Andrew Brewin of Greenwood; Conservative David Hahn of Broadview; Liberal Donald MacDonald of Rosedale; Conservative Hal Jackman; Liberal Perry Ryan of Spadina; Liberal Maurice Moreau of York-Scarborough; and Conservative Willis Blair of York East. Footage of hockey player Leonard "Red" Kelly's victory speech to supporters at campaign headquarters in York-West.~The CBC TELEVISION NEWS with Earl Cameron is also included in this program, which features: footage and details of American Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara's call for increased foreign aid and press statement regarding defense spending by North Atlantic Treaty Organization members; the British and American crackdown on Cuban raiders in the Caribean with shots of Cuban exiles arriving in Miami; and the new American legislation concerning income tax receipts for expenses with accompanying footage of Chicago restaurant goers. <420mn>
