Television Centennial program in celebration of Canadian confederation. Hosts Donald Gordon and June Callwood present multiple choice questions and answers on Canadian history before a studio audience consisting of University of Toronto history students and various public figures, including Elwy Yost. Audience members press buttons on consoles at their seats to record their answers on an electronic display and results are compared at the end of the program. Clips and commentary accompany the various questions.~Footage includes: Sir Frederick Banting receiving the Nobel prize for medicine in 1923; the Halifax Citadel and aerial shots of the harbour and nearby Fort Louisbourg; King George VI's 1939 visit to Winnipeg and Queen Elizabeth II's 1959 visit with shots of both receiving fur pelts from Indian tribes; aerial shots of Niagara Falls and Niagara River; shots of Fort Niagara and Fort George; Callwood explains the battle of Queenston Heights at the monument of Sir Isaac Brock; W.L. Mackenzie King with Sir Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt at the 1943 Quebec Conference; aerial shots of the Canadian Rockies, Vancouver, and the Lyon's Gate Bridge; the gravesite of Louis Riel in Winnipeg's St. Boniface Cathedral cemetery; World War I Commander Sir Arthur Currie and shots of Canadian armed forces in France; World War II sea battles and bombers; and stills of the the Halifax explosion with comment from author Hugh MacLennan. Additional clips and comments from: Prime Minister Lester Pearson on receiving the Nobel Peace Prize; a cartoon of Loyalist settlements by Duncan Macpherson; Conservative leader John Diefenbaker explaining the 1960 Bill of Rights at the Parliamentary library; Viscount Amory, Governor of the Hudson's Bay Company, from Beaver House in London, explaining the charter of the Hudson's Bay Company; the Right Honourable Vincent Massey talking about the North Atlantic Halibut Treaty; Ian Sinclair, president of Canadian Pacific, on the building of the railway; a scale model representation of the battle on the Plains of Abraham; Tommy Douglas, New Democratic Party leader, at Confederation Hall in Canada's Parliament Buildings, talking about Canada's entry into the Second World War and J.S. Woodsworth's speech in the House of Commons on that occasion, and writer Hugh MacLennan giving his recollections of the 1917 Halifax explosion. Also shown are stills of French seigneurs and former Canadian prime ministers.
