Canadian forces at Courcelette, Western Front, autumn 1916. ~"The Canadian's, literally blasted their way through to Courcelette; amid horror, and devastation, such as even this war has not witnessed before. Each man did his duty, in the hour of death and the hour of victory." "At 6.20 in the morning the order was given for our men to advance - The tanks move forward over wire entanglements." Close-up of British Mk-1 tank 'A17' advancing through barbed wire. "Machine guns cover the advance." Vickers machine gun crew fires into the battlefield. "Enemy shrapnel cannot stop the lads from the Western Dominion." Long distance shots of soldiers in no man's land with shells exploding. "Wires being broken the heliograph gets to work." Soldiers repair telegraph wire and a heliograph crew signals. Various artillery pieces are loaded and fired. The dead on the battlefield. A large artillery gun fires as a convoy passes in the background on the way to the front. German prisoners smoke, eat and relax. Soldiers on the march. Stretcher bearers, some of them prisoners, bring in the wounded. <5mn>
