Live coverage of the wreath laying ceremony at the war memorial in Ottawa. It begins with a close-up of the cenotaph, actuality sound of crowds and traffic and then an announcer describes the scene as onlookers, officials and members of the miiltary await the arrival of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen's motorcade arrives. This is followed by footage of: the Queen and Prince Phillip greeting Paul Hellyer, Minister of National Defence, Lucien Cardin, Associate Minister of National Defence and Roger Teillet, Minister of Veterans Affairs; the Queen and Prince Phillip standing on dais during the royal salute; playing of God Save the Queen; inspection by the Queen of the Royal Guard; Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson and other dignitaries walk behind the Queen; longshot of the cenotaph; close-up of top of the cenotaph; band plays Abide With Me as the Queen and Prince Phillip place a wreath at the memorial; band plays O Canada; Prince Phillip salutes during the playing of the national anthem; band plays God Save the Queen again; Roger Teillet escorts the Queen to meet some of the war veterans in the crowd, among them officials of the Royal Canadian Legion and other veterans organizations; the Queen meeting Drum Major Mickey Sullivan of the Montgomery Branch Drum and Bugle Band; the Queen meeting war veterans, Silver Cross mothers, members of the War Amputations organization; and John Kidd of Ottawa, the commander of the veterans' colour party; another playing of God Save the Queen; and the departure of the Queen and Prince Phillip for a reception hosted by Prime Minister Lester B.
