Live CBC television coverage of the arrival of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip at RCAF Station Summerside, Prince Edward Island, to begin the 1964 Royal Visit to Eastern Canada, commemorating the 1864 confederation conferences in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and Quebec City. The coverage begins with a shot of two airplanes on the tarmac. This is followed by footage of: interior of Hangar Eight as the Royal Guard, officials and guests await the arrival of the Queen's airplane; members of the Royal Guard recruited from RCAF Manning Depot at Saint-Jean, Quebec; the arrival of Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson and Mrs. Pearson; Station Commander Group Captain A.G. Dagg greeting the Pearsons; the Pearsons standing with James Coutts, the Prime Minister's appointmens secretary; the RCAF Central Band; the arrival of Governor General Georges P. Vanier and Madame Vanier; the Pearsons greeting the Vaniers; the crowd cheering for Vanier; Vanier standing on the dais as he receives a Royal Salute and God Save the Queen is played; audio of radio communications between the Queen's aircraft on approach to landing and the Summerside control tower; a view of Malpeque Bay near the runway; one of the four 105mm Howitzers waiting to fire the 21-gun salute; Loughheed Neptune submarine hunter aircraft and Argus aircraft parked on the runaway; guests and journalists seated in the bleachers; the landing of the Queen's BOAC 707 aircraft; the Queen and Prince Phillip leaving the plane as the crowd cheers, the Vaniers and the Pearsons greeting the Queen and Prince Phillip; dignitaries such as the Premier of Prince Edward Island and the Lieutenant Governor greeting the Queen and Prince Phillip; the Queen standing on the dais for the Royal Salute and the playing of God Save the Queen; the Queen inspects the Royal Guard; the presentation of some of the distinguished guests to the Queen and Prince Phillip; the Queen and Prince Phillip sign a guest book; the Queen is presented with a bouquet; the Queen and Prince Phillip get into a limousine as the crowd cheers; and the car drives off to Summerside dock, where they will board the Royal Yacht Britannia.
