Norman Reid, retired comptroller of the Dominion Bridge Company who discusses the financial side of the company. Reid recounts that the company has ledgers, cashbooks and contracts going back to 1882 - all meticulously hand-written until accounting machines were introduced in 1939. Smith recalls that "4 or 5 truckloads" of the company's financial records were destroyed according to provincial requirements. Also discussed was the system of paying workers in cash every Friday when the wives would wait at the plant gates "before the men hit the saloons". Other topics include the uniqueness of the company issuing only "capital stock", the financial problems of the company during the Depression, and unprofitable projects such as Place Ville Marie in Montreal.Language:EnglishDetailed holdings information: -
