Program in the CBC Radio series AS TIME GOES BY, a nostalgic series recalling the three golden decades of radio from 1925 to 1955, drawing upon recordings from the CBC archives and other public and private collections.~A documentary program reviewing the highlights in the career of the Paul Whiteman Band.~Ed Manning comments on Paul Whiteman's early career and plays the following excerpts:~Early recording (pre 1920) of the Paul Whiteman Band with Ferdé Grofé as pianist-arranger.~Early recording of Paul Whiteman banjo substitute for drums.~"Rhapsody in Blue" (Gershwin) premiere performance, with Goerge Gershwin at the piano (1925).~Bing Crosby's first recording with Paul Whiteman (March 7, 1927).~Bix Beiderbecke and Joe Venuti with Paul Whiteman.~"When Day's Done", Paul Whiteman and orchestra.~John Boles (singer) and Paul Whiteman band.~Bix Beiderbecke's last record with Paul Whiteman, including vocal by Bing Crosby.~Mildred Bailey sings "All of Me", with Paul Whiteman's band.~A recreation of the Paul Whiteman band (original numbers), featuring Tommy Dorsey, trombone (circa 1948).~Paul Whiteman speaks in retrospect of a career already 50 years old. <1h>

The series features excerpts presented by CBC archives supervisor Robin Woods of curiosities from the CBC archives, by Rod Coneybeare of comedy series, horror programs, children's broadcasts and spoken word broadcasts, by Ron Hambleton of news and actuality, by Alan King of dramas, and by Ed Manning of music shows and personalities.~3.
