This is a radio program about the arrival of the 1st Canadian Division in Britain. J. Frank Willis describes the arrival of the convoy at Greenock on December 17, 1939. Included are speeches recorded on board ship by the Secretary of State for the Dominions, Anthony Eden; Vincent Massey and General McNaughton. There is actuality of an officer's party on board ship in Halifax on the night before the ships sailed for Britain, including the sound of singing. Also included is actuality of: troops singing O Canada and a French song from the decks of ships as they sailed out of Halifax Harbour on Dec. 10, 1939; sounds of men calling "goodbye" to various cities (Toronto, Moose Jaw, Regina, Montreal); the dedication of the new battle flag of the 1st Canadian Division during the crossing; and the sounds of life boat instruction. J. Frank Willis describes the arrival of the convoy. There are sounds of a church service on board. The broadcast concludes with an eye-witness account by an observer on land. <45mn>
