Television public affairs program with host Frank Willis. A look at the life and career of former Liberal Cabinet Minister, C.D. Howe, who died December 31, 1960. Blair Fraser comments as stills which highlight Howe's career are shown. Excerpts from an earlier interview with Douglas Leiterman in which Howe comments on: the trans-Canada pipeline project; the possibility of an economic depression; and his life in retirement. The threatened shut-down of the Caledonia Coal Mines at Glace Bay, Nova Scotia is examined by journalist George Ronald. Shots of the small mining community and the mines in the nearby town of Sydney accompany comments from disillusioned miners, in addition to remarks from: United Mine Workers District President Bill Marsh; Mayor Dan Alec MacDonald; Justice Ivan C. Rand; Father Andy Hogan of St. Frances Xavier University; Nova Scotia Premier Robert Stanfield; Dr. Clarence Nicholson, former Moderator of the United Church; and local Member of Parliament Donald McGinnis. President of Dosco Mine Operations, which owns the Caledonia Mine, Albert L. Fairley Jr., reads a statement regarding the mine's closure and defends his company's actions.
