Brustein traces him back to "Yank" in O'Neill's "Hairy Ape" of 1922; later to "Joe" in Odet's "Golden Boy"; then to "Stanley Kowalski" played by Marlon Brando in Tennessee Williams' "Streetcar Named Desire"; "Hal" in William Inge's "Picnic"; and "Johnny" in Gazzo's "Hatful of Rain". Scenes from these plays are recreated to illustrate Brustein's character analysis of what he calls the "hesitant hero". <30mn>Subjects:HEROES IN LITERATURE~HEROES IN MOTION PICTURES ~BRUSTEIN, ROBERT~GERUSSI, BRUNO~REISER, ANNA~TURNBULL, DEBORAHLanguage:EnglishDetailed holdings information: -
