Sub-series consists of official stamps issued by the Post Office Department between 1928 and 1963. Stamps sent from or used by government departments were marked to indicate they were official stamps. Official stamps were first perforated by the Department of Finance for use by their provincial offices beginning in 1923. In 1939, the Post Office Department took over the practice of perforating stamps and supplied more than fifty government departments, commissions, and agencies with perforated stamps directly. Until 1949, these stamps were perforated with the initials "OHMS" (On His Majesty's Service). In 1949, the Post Office Department replaced the practice of perforating with overprinting. In 1949, "OHMS" was overprinted on all official stamps. In 1950, this was replaced with a "G" overprint. On December 31st, 1963, the practice of overprinting for official use was discontinued.
