He began working for C.P. "Fox" Walker at the Walker Theatre in Winnipeg, as an usher selling opera glasses, and finally as a supernumerary for repertory companies. He describes the building of the Dominion Theatre in 1904, the Unique Theatre and the Bijou Theatre. The Winnipeg Permanent Players stock company is discussed with reference to the shows it played and the Canadian copyright laws of the day. Wishart served as advance man for the Winnipeg Kiddies variety group, prop man, manager and movie theatre manager, semi-pro baseball player and early (1923) commercial airline pilot. He describes a production of Ben Hur in an ice rink, and the dramatic scenery of the melodramas produced in Winnipeg's theatres. Numerous theatres and theatrical personalities from Lillie Langtry to the Australian Juvenile Pollard Lilliputian Opera Company are remembered.Language:EnglishNotes: -
