Item is a letter from John Norton Teyoninhokarawen to Robert Barclay, Niagara, July 24, 1806.

Norton discusses the Haldimand Grant, the relationship between the Six Nations with the British colonial government, the distribution of goods, the influence of the French, war, compensations for old chiefs, Christianity, the development of industry and the instruction of children, etc. He apologizes to Agatha Barclay (Yorighwio?), Robert Barclay's daughter, for the delay in sending his journal.

Enclosed with this letter is a transcription of a speech (copy) by Joseph Brant Thayendanegea to William Claus, at Fort George on July 23, 1806 (signed by Norton and other witnesses) and shorter speeches by two other chiefs [Okoghsennigonte and Tehaoseenisghte (of the Seneca)].
