Windsor Star : The first issues of the Windsor Star were published September 3, 1918 from a building located on the northwest corner of Sandwich Street (now Riverside Drive, West) and Ferry Street. The circulation of 10,000 papers daily covered news of Ford, Walkerville, Windsor, Sandwich and Ojibway. The price of the first issue of 16 pages was two cents. The history of the Windsor Star actually goes back to 1888 when Archibald McNee purchased The Windsor Record, a weekly paper which he turned into a daily in 1890. In the same year, Mr. John A. McKay of Woodstock bought a half-interest in the Record. In 1906, Mr. McKay bought out his partner and became the sole owner of the paper until 1918, when W. F. Herman, a former owner of the Saskatoon Star and Regina Post, came to Windsor and bought out the McKay interests in the Record. Mr. Herman immediately changed the name of the paper to the Border Cities Star. It was renamed The Windsor Daily Star in 1935 following the amalgamation of several small communities.
