This film tells the story of Operation Cryogenics, a US Steel / Inco / Chicago Bridge and Iron Company project to test the serviceability of transport tanks for liquid gases constructed of 9% nickel-steel. After a brief history of cryogenics testing, the film shows the rolling of 9% nickel-steel plates at a US Steel plant; the construction of tankers of various specifications at a Chicago Bridge and Iron Company plant; and footage from the October 25 and 26, 1960 demonstrations at US Steel's Harrisburg, Pennsylvania facility. After introductions by Inco Vice-President of Research F.L. LaQue; Chicago Bridge and Iron Vice-President of Engineering I.E. Boberg; and US Steel Vice-President of Applied Research M.W. Lichener, the gas-cooled tanks are put through impact and pressure tests in front of interested spectators by Chicago Bridge and Iron Chief Research Engineer Leonard Zick. Of note: the film includes a shot of the US government experimental plane the X-15 at a US air force base. <14mn>
