This film outlines the history and progress of Inco's nickel mining project at Kolosjoki, Finland and includes shots of many Finnish and Norwegian locations. Footage shows the original log houses, roads, and temporary buildings of the deposit exploration teams and the construction of new roads and buildings; the project staff, introduced by job and surname; a road from the camp at Kaula to Saraslati; and a ferry trip to Norway including shots of Svanvik, Langfjord, Kirchenes, a bridge over the Patsjoki at Elvenes, and the Sydvaranger Iron Mine. Locations in Finland include Rovaniemi on the Kemi River; Sodankyla, Peuravanto; Vuotso, Kuotsjarvi, Kaulatunturi, Kotselvarra, Kamikiri, Pilgujar, Salmijarvi, Silankorva, Janiskoski on the Patsjoki, Koltakangas, the monastery at Luostari, Ylaiuostari (or Alaluostari), the Petsamo (or Trifona) River, the Arctic port of Liinahamari, Heinasaari on Bird Island, Vaitolati, Kervanto, and Pummarki. Sights of Helsinki shown include the Senate Square, the Church of St. Nicholas and a statue of Czar Alexander II; the East Harbour; the President's Palace; the British and Swedish Legations; the Parliament Building; and the Swedish theatre. 1. Dated from content. An intertitle in the film dates the period as post-1937. The company lost control of the mine in November1939, when Russia invaded Finland. The bulk of the footage was shot in the summertime, of either 1938 or 1939.
