Speech competition. In August, foreman [Jo McBriarty?] and his men used safety speeches in the main shop at their rallies. Corporate liked the idea and decided to make it a plant-wide competition in the fall. 193 men gave safety speeches, and the best 6 were selected for this recording, in order to chose the winner. Senior management is in attendance as a means of displaying their interest in workers' safety. Three guests serve as judges: Mr. Jules Chartier, manager of Industrial Relations, Dominion Rubber Company; Mr. Norman English, Vice-President, Vapour-Heating Canada Limited, and Vice-President of Industrial Accident Prevention Association Quebec; and Mr. Bert [Reid?] of the Industrial Accident Prevention Association Quebec. Finalists speak up to 3 minutes in French or English. 1.) Maurice Deschamps, Gas Cutter with 10 years service, Plate and Boiler Division - subject: let's make it safer. 2) Armand Francavilla, Layout Man #1 with 11 years of service, Mechanical Division. 3) [Zonathon Miron?], checker with 16 years service, Longue-Pointe - subject: "la prudence". 4) [Joanie?] Chabot, Expediter with 16 years service, Structural Division. 5.) John [Dremes?], Locomotive Driver of 2 years service, Transportation Division. 6.) [Leo Dumae?], general repairman of 5 years of service, Maintenance Division. <28mn>
