This film illustrates the uses of nickel in our everyday world. Footage includes shots of mines, smelters, refineries, and many objects which use nickel: ocean liners; airplanes; racing boats; automobiles; trains; communications cables; telephones; fishing reels; hydro-electric power stations; forging hammers; water faucets; heating furnaces; toasters; irons; percolators; pocket watches; bulldozers;and the many nickels which are deposited in the New York subway system turnstiles. Arguing that the nickel story is stranger than fiction or fable, the film includes a storybook sequence with animated scenes illustrating Little Red Riding Hood, Alladin and His Lamp, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Cinderella. Still-frame pictures illustrating Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jack and Jill, The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe, and Old King Cole are shown. <10mn>

1. Version note located on leader.~2. Film differs from Canadian and French-language versions in the credit sequence, naming Inco's American subsidiary as sponsor and not listing a music credit though the music is identical. The French-language version lists Rothacker as producer while the English-language versions list him as director. The French-language version has a different narrator.
