General note:

Accession consists of records created and/or maintained by the St Lawrence Seaway Authority.

The accession covers a wide range of records of SLSA's administrative and operational activities over the years. Subjects include, but are not limited to: Letters Patent, Deeds, Acquisitions of Land by Expropriation, Leases & Licenses, Contracts, Claims, Accidents, Navigation Ships, Environmental Management Services, Operational Services, and many others.

Custodial history:

Records for the most part were created by the St. Lawrence Seaway Authority but where kept by the successor organization, the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation, a private non-profit organization, after SLSA was dissolved in June of 1998 and SLSMC took over responsibility for SLSA's navigational assets on Oct. 1, 1998. The records were subsequently transferred to Transport Canada, which eventually transferred this collection to LAC.
