From the interview with Jeff Rubin: "We're going to see a coalescence of organized labour with the environmental movement, and we're already seeing that in things like the blue-green alliance between the Sierra Club and the US steel workers. Because here's the thing, to produce a tonne of steel in North America emits one third less CO2 emissions than it does to produce that tonne of steel in China. Now, if carbon emissions are free, who cares? It has no economic impact. What happens if all of a sudden, it costs $40, $50, $60 a tonne to emit carbon in our atmosphere? All of a sudden, the fact that you can produce steel in North America emitting one third less CO2 than you can in China, is going to affect where steel production takes place. The higher the price for carbon emissions, the greater is the economic advantage in emitting less.

"And that's why I think that when we put a price on carbon emissions, and insist that other people, if they want to sell in our market have to pay the same price, we are going to find that is bringing jobs home as opposed to sending jobs away. In other words, we're going to turn blue-collar jobs into greencollar jobs."

Jeff Rubin is a Canadian economist and author. During a stellar career with CIBC World Markets he made a name for himself with prescient predictions. He has a knack for generating controversy, being mocked by peers only to be proven correct as history unfolds.

Jeff was born in 1954, and after receiving his B.A. from University of Toronto and his Master's from McGill, both in Economics, Jeff began his career with the Ontario Treasury Department. There he projected future interest rates.
