From the interview: "I think it's because we're terrestrial and we don't think about the ocean, except perhaps as a place to get fish or maybe even a route. That's what it's been in history. A means to power and wealth is what it's been over the course of human history. But it's much more than that, as I discovered. Biologically, it's what gives us life, and without it, we would all be dead. And that concept is just so foreign to us. But what the science shows is that-I think it was Boris Worm, the biologist at Dalhousie [University], who explained to me that if everything on land were to die tomorrow, everything in the ocean would be fine, would be healthier, actually. But if everything in the ocean were to die tomorrow, everything on land would die as well because we're fully dependant on the chemical systems of the ocean to give us life."
