Bureau of MinesDescription:The film explains the refining and milling of nickel and nickel alloys at a large International Nickel Company, Inc. plant. Footage shows copper-nickel matte arriving at the plant, being crushed, ground, and roasted in one of three furnaces - the high-frequency induction furnace, the electric arc furnace, or the gas-fired open hearth reverberatory furnace. The slag and metal are drawn off separately and the metal is cast into ingots, re-melted, re-cast and then sent to the hammer shop where it is forged, cut, and stamped. Next it goes to the machine shop where it is milled into wire, sheets, and coin strip by hot rolling. Footage also shows the production of rods and tubes in a reducing machine which stretches the nickel out to the required length. <30mn>Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
