This file consists of five charcoal drawings. These works are set designs completed by Rudi Dorn for CBC's The Marriage of Figaro. The black and white images conveyed potential props, architecture, costume, and compositions for specific moments. While functional, the drawings are also beautifully developed. The sharp lines and angles communicate a certainty of vision and technical proficiency. The tonal range and manipulation of gradation expertly softens the architectural lines and infuse life into each frame.

General note:

The Marriage of Figaro (also known: Le Nozze di Figaro) was originally created as an opera by Mozart in the late 18th century. The play consists of four acts and follows the dramatic events of love and betrayal leading up to Figaro and Susanna's (servants of Count Almaviva and Countess Rosine) nuptials. The tone of the play is comedic and witty, culminating in a positive outcome. Today the play is one of the most performed operas and in 1956 CBC presented their version on television in their Folio series.
