The religious tale was released as part of 'Holy Week' and was intended to make the 'Passion of the Christ' really come alive. The play was aired on Good Friday in 1959. In the CBC Times (Vol. 8, No. 37) Paul Almond had this to say about the play: "'The Hill' the production has been arranged to underline the truth that in the Passion none of us is a spectator, for consciously or otherwise we are all actors in this drama".
