Chambers, Bob : Bob (Robert) Chambers was a long-time political cartoonist for the Halifax Chronicle Herald. He was born in Wolfville, NS in 1905. In the early 1920s he began working in Halifax as a free-lance cartoonist. In 1924 he moved to New York where he lived and worked at times as an animator for Aesop's Fables (later Terrytoons), and as an illustrator at the New York Graphic. He studied for a year at the Art Students' League before returning to Halifax in 1932. In 1933, Chambers was hired by the the Halifax Chronicle as a cartoonist. In 1937, Chambers went to work for the Halifax Herald. In 1948 the Chronicle and the Herald merged; Chambers continued to work there until he retired in 1977. Chambers was the recipient of the National Newspaper Award (1953, 1966), and in 1977, he was elected to the Canadian News Hall of Fame.
