From the document: "The call for sanctions against South Africa has been raised by the oppressed people of South Africa for decades. It first went out in the early 1960s following the massacre at Sharepeville when the African National Congress (ANC) and the South African Congress of Trade Unions (SACTU) appealed for international solidarity in their struggle against Apartheid. SACTU put it bluntly in a statement issued at its Eighth Annual Conference in 1963: [...] 'To our friends abroad we say that trafficking in the fruits of Apartheid can never be in the interests of the workers who suffer under Apartheid.'"
