File consists of an album of loose prints tied between two covers. The photographs were taken on James Richardson's 1860 expedition of the Geological Survey of Canada to Quebec, Labrador, and Newfoundland. The purpose of the expedition was to fill in gaps in geology for William E. Logan's book "Geology of Canada" (1963). Richardson was assisted by Mr. Reeves, and entries in the expedition field book indicates both of them took photographs. The photographs, many of which are present in four copies, include prints from GSC negatives 2 to 28, and represent the first photographs taken on a GSC expedition. Subjects include landscape views and geological formations in Quebec and Labrador, including: the northern shore of the St. Lawrence River, Chaudier River, Cape St. Charles, Potsdam Junction and Indian Pt. Village Bay, Point du Mort [Pointes des Mont], Large Island, Mingham, Cape Charles, Hammer Isle, Mingham Falls, and Porteaux Choix Harbour.
