General note:

Accession consists of records created by the Task Force on Urban Transportation (TUT) of the Department of Industry, Trade and Commerce (ITC). Established in 1975, the Task Force was an interdepartmental body responsible for developing an industrial strategy for the urban transportation sector.

Subjects include, but are not limited to industrial strategy, urban transportation development (including federal involvement in the creation of the Urban Transportation Development Corporation, UTDC), rapid transit systems, press releases, briefings, committees, and other general correspondence. The records also include proceedings of the UTDC Task Force, a separate entity that predates TUT.

Custodial history:

Modifications to the file numbers on the records suggest that these were originally created and maintained as a unique set of records outside of any branch, but were later integrated into the records of the Transportation Industries Branch.
