This sub-sub-series contains Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Twitter archives with the handles @EAP, @planeconomique, @PMUpdates, and @MiseajourWebPM. The Economic Action Plan accounts (@EAP, @planeconomique) provided content on the economic measures to counter the effect of the global recession in Canada during the Prime Minister's time in office. Twitter content provided information on funding for research, infrastructure projects, and other economic stimulus projects. The PMUpdates accounts (@PMUpdates, @MiseajourWebPM) provided daily updates of the Prime Minister's activities (such as travel, meetings, ceremonies, accomplishments, and initiatives) using hashtags such as #24SevenDaily. The account also highlighted his personal interests such as adoptable pets. The four accounts often referred to the Prime Minister's website (pm.gc.ca) and his other social media presence.
Each account consists of two main types of records: the archived internet content (non-static html, cascading style sheets, graphic files with icons, etc.) and textual files containing the raw tweet data.
The archived internet files work together to display the content in the HTML interface. The interface displays an index, statistics, and a chronology of tweets. The interface does not display the images tweeted or retweeted. When displaying the content via the interface, it pulls from live web content if it is available online. The exported content does not contain a static or frozen in time version of hyperlinks or images. As a result, an old tweet directing a visitor to a particular page will direct you to current web content and not the page as it was at the time the tweet was posted.
The raw tweet content consists of two files: a CSV file and a TXT "read me" file. The "read me" file directs the reader to use the archived internet files to view the content in the HTML interface. The CSV file contains exported data associated with each account such as tweet IDs, tweets or retweets, and dates posted. Content containing accents or symbols does not always display properly in the CSV version, however, the html content displays the text correctly.
Twitter has strict Terms of Use regulating the use of its content and limits what can be extracted from the account. As a result, interactions in Twitter such as comments, tetweets, and "likes" were not transferred to LAC.
These accounts were exported at the end of Prime Minister Harper's term in 2015. PM Harper's content was deleted from the account once it was exported from @PMUpdates. The handle @EAP was deleted after export and the handle is used by another Twitter account, unrelated to the Prime Minister or the Government of Canada.
