This sub-sub-series contains the Prime Minister's Volunteer Awards (PMVA) account of Prime Minister Stephen J. Harper.

The Prime Minister announced in January 2011 the creation of the awards program "to recognize the enormous contribution volunteers make to Canada". It consisted of two awards at the national level (Lifelong Achievement and Emerging Leaders) and a series of regional awards under the categories of Community Leader, Business Leader, and Social Innovator. While official information on the program and the recipients can currently be located online (on the now named Canadian Volunteer Awards website), the content from Facebook is unique as it contains the photographs of the Prime Minister, Ministers, Members of Parliament, and the award recipients, as well as the digital interactions with followers (such as comments, "reaches", and "likes") at the time the content was posted.

In this sub-sub-series, researchers will find a combination of screen shots as well as internet files exported prior to the dissolution of the PMVA account. There are two types of internet files. One is a static capture consisting of a single HTML index while the other type contains a variety of interdependent non-static content. Please note the non-static internet content is not easily navigable and appears fragmented. The screen captures and the static content provide the best glimpse of what the account looked like when it was active.

The original arrangement organized the content by media (photos and video), full posts, and the HTML and associated internet files. The original structure was retained, but was renamed by the archival team for clarity.

Facebook is a social networking site or platform where you can make friends, post content and news on your "wall" as well as engage with your friends and followers. The Prime Minister's Volunteer Awards (PMVA) Facebook account was created in 2011. It was exported from the Facebook web application in 2015 and held in Government of Canada (GoC) servers until deposited with Library and Archives Canada by the Right Honourable Stephen J. Harper later that year. Library and Archives Canada formally acquired the PMVA Facebook account export and screen shots or captures of the account in November 2018.

Library and Archives Canada did not acquire Stephen J. Harper's personal Facebook account.

Based on metadata found in the export, the PMVA Facebook content was created using an application called Woodbox Custom HTML and Static Iframe (a custom HTML tool used to create embedded or static Facebook content for businesses or corporations).

This PMVA account was categorized as a "Government Organization" and was described as "the official page of the Prime Minister's Volunteer Awards... celebrating Canadians who make a difference". The Facebook "About" section contained hyperlinks to both the Prime Minister's generic email account (pm@pm.gc.ca) and official website (https://pm.gc.ca).

The PMVA program was renamed Canada's Volunteer Awards after the end of the Prime Minister's term in 2015. The PMVA Facebook account is no longer active.

Dates reflect those found in the contents of the digital records. The metadata associated with these records reflect the day the content was captured/exported from the Facebook account, which was October 28, 2015. While the PMVA Facebook account was created in 2011, the majority of the posts date from December 2012 to June 2014.
