Baked beans and hot mulled cider are two favorite winter crowd warmers. For a more novel chill-chaser, and lots of fun, you might let friends take a hand in mixing their own soups. As the host or hostess, it's your job to provide the basic soup plus a variety of trimmings. For six people, a basic stock could be made by combining 7 cups of beef bouillon, one 7 1/2 ounce can of tomato sauce, and 1/4 cup of flour. For flavor add 3 cups of sauteed onion and a clove of garlic. Then stir in 2 teaspoons of Worcester¬shire sauce, and simmer the soup for 30 minutes. This is one suggestion for a basic soup, but you may wish to try others. Various additions should be placed on the table in serving dishes. Possibilities include sauteed mushrooms, diced tomatoes, thin slices of pepperoni, grated cheese, chopped parsley, or cooked miniature meat¬balls. Once the guests have their bowls of steaming broth they can spoon any combination or quantity of the additions into their soup to make it as hearty or light as they please. <1mn 4s>
