"Many families have become extremely interested in possible ways to conserve energy and trim monthly fuel bills. You can cut the use of fuel in the kitchen and here's a few suggestions as to how you might do it. Try to cook all foods for a meal in one area of the range; on top, in the oven or under the broiler. Try cooking complete oven meals, like baked pork chops, vegetables and a dessert such as apple crisp or a rhubarb pie. If cooking just a small quantity of food use a small fry pan or electric skillet rather than heating up the complete oven or the broiler. Use only as much heat as you need to do the cooking job. Don't preheat the oven any longer than is necessary, or open the oven door unnecessarily as this causes a temperature loss of approximately 2 5 F. When cooking a roast or a casserole try to cook other foods for later meals at the same time. The refrigerator can also be an appliance where we can help cut energy cost. Avoid overloading the refrigerator at one time with warm food. Rotate food as you store it placing in the front of the refrigerator the items that have been in the unit the longest. If your refrigerator is a manual defrost model try to keep the refrige¬rator defrosted regularly as heavy icing cuts down on the efficiency. <1mn 37s> "
