Packing a lunchbox meal day in and day out can be a challenge to anyone's imagination, both in keeping the person who is packing the lunch interested, as well, as the one who has to eat it. Give this meal as much thought as you would any meal of the day. Put something special in the lunchbox, any sort of new and unusual food, different sandwiches, special garnishes, dessert treats and so on. The first thing to consider of course is to pack the foods that the lunch carrier likes; keeping in mind the essential nutrients everyone needs every day to keep fit. If your sandwiches are becoming a little monotonous, have a look at the display of the many kinds of rolls and breads available in the stores which you can use for making sandwiches such as Kaiser or poppyseed rolls, buttercrust bread, rye bread, raisin bread, french rolls, whole wheat or oatmeal bread, a bagel or an onion roll. Another important point to remember, is to keep all perishable sandwich ingredients refrigerated until you're ready to use them. Finished sandwiches and other perishable foods should be refrigerated cold before being put into the lunchbox. Here is a sandwich idea that you might like to try. Split hot-dog buns in half lengthwise and spread with butter or margarine. Put a slice or two of bologna, ham, roast beef or any other type of sliced meat to cover the bun surface. Select a salad filling such as a combination of shredded cabbage and shredded cheese and spread this mixture down the center of the meat. Roll the meat over the salad and place on the lower half of the bun. Cover and fasten with wooden toothpicks and then wrap well in a moisture-vapor-proof wrap. <1mn 50s>
