Cheese can be a companion to any meal or served as is. There's scarcely any food that doesn't combine well with cheese. One of the best ways that I know of using cheese is to combine it with pastas. Not only does this provide a fairly economical and hearty meal but one which is high in food value. After all it takes more than one gallon of milk to make one pound of cheese. Keep in mind when you're buying cheeses that it usually costs less a pound in the large packages than the small ones. Price also increases with the age of the cheese. Mild or medium cheddar for instance may sell for several cents less per pound than old which has to be stored longer. Compare prices of the store-brand versus the brand name cheese and Canadian-made cheese versus the imported one. The next time you're passing the dairy shelf of your local supermarket take a little extra time to examine all the Canadian made chesses that are available to you either for cooking or using as is.
