What's in a salad? It's anything you might like to put in it. Actually, the word salad derives from the Latin word for salt- sal. Salt was the universal preservative and vegetables could be keep the year round with some sort of salt dressing. The first salads were edible herbs or plants dressed only with salt. From this beginning, salads expanded to include a wide variety of ingredients, fruits, vegetables, herbs, meat, cheese and fish. Salads can be anything from a simple lettuce salad to a main dish full of meats and cheeses. Whatever salad that you serve, dress it up. Here are a few minimum of effort; maximum of taste ideas for dressings that you may like to try with your next salad. Dress mayonnaise or salad dressing with grated cheeses, you can use cheddar cheese, Swiss Canadian, or blue cheese. Plain yogurt combined with other ingredients such as chopped sweet juice is sensational on a vegetable salad. Combine sour cream with your favourite seasoning for another interesting dressing idea.
