CKODescription:Recording discussing Simpson-Sears' conviction and fine over the false advertising of diamonds. The Crown called for a one-million dollar fine over false advertising. Simpson-Sears' was reportedly one of the worst companies in Canada for consumer crime and false advertising. The company was convicted of misleading the public on the value of jewelry in an advertising campaign from 1975 to 1978. The campaign boasted sales of 3050% off the appraised value of the diamonds, however the appraisals were fraudulent. They were not appraised correctly, and the management of the company knowingly continued with these sales, even after being told selling rings with bad appraisals, and even after being told they were breaking the law. Simpsons-Sears had had eight convictions in the past for false advertising. <00mn 45s>Language:EnglishNotes: -
