General note:

Photographs taken by Thomas Mitchell and George White along the coasts of Greenland and Baffin Island during the G. S. Nares Expedition to the Arctic, 1875-1876. The ships involved were the Alert and the DiscoveryHMS HMS. A second collection of photographs (Volume II) are accessioned as 1936-258. There is also a collection of 22 watercolours documenting the expedition, all done by Thomas Mitchell, and held in the art holdings of the National Archives of Canada 1936-259.
All of the items in the holdings have been photographed in black and white. See C-negative numbers C-52483 to C-52487; C-52495 to C-52535; C-4587; C-19133; C-19136; and C-25919 to C-25921.
