Some have gone back to trace their family tree and the bloodline of their ancestors. Alex Haley, a black American lawyer traced his ancestors and compiled his findings in a novel entitled ROUTS. Georgia Boyd, a black Canadian author and publisher tells that black settlement in Canada goes back as far as 1628 and because of her maiden name - Modesty, she suspects that she may have roots in the French West Indies where Modesty is a popular name. In the first of a two-part interview Georgia Boyd talks to Donette Chin-Loy about the search for her roots and her first book ANNE MARIE WEEMS whose co-author is Carol Tremaine.
