And many communities and organizations throughout the world observe the day with celebrations. But nowhere is St. John's spirit better remembered than in Canada's French-speaking province of Quebec, where June 24 is now the official "national" day of "Quebecers". The annual veneration of St. Jean Baptiste, as he's called in French, was brought to Canada by French settlers from Normandy, who occupied what was then known as New France.
