According to notes in the original finding aid for accessions 1973-357 & 1974-366, item numbers from this collection should be formatted as YEAR-##. The order was reversed in these photo captions. They have been added to this record in correct order to match the item numbers in the Loose departmental photographs and negatives sub-sub-series.

Inscribed beneath images: 55-1949. A half-breed who is very proud of his deerskin jacket, which is highly decorative. 57-1949. Dr. Carter Storr and Dr. R.N. Simpson step off the train at a small settlement on the way north to Churchill. With them in the foreground is the O/C the American Forces at Churchill. 58-1949. Members of the Spring Inspection Flight, 1949. L. to R: Doug Wilkinson - National Film Board, Dr. Carter Storr - visual educationalist, temporarily employed by the N.W.T. Administration, Dr. R.N. Simpson - Indian Health Services. 56-1949. Amongst the Eskimos in the Eastern Arctic the custom of promising a baby in marriage is still quite prevalent. Ordinarily, this works out quite well, for the two children concerned are usually of an age. However, when one of the children dies, complications may arise, as is seen in this instance. Here the girl had been promised in marriage to this boy's brother, but the brother died. The custom in such instances is to arrange that the next younger take his brother's place. Thus in this case, one finds that a girl about fifteen years of age is promised in marriage to this young lad who would be approximately eight years of age. 59-1949. The Norseman chartered by the Spring Inspection Flight, 1949, flies out from Arctic Bay to visit some of the encampments in that district. 60-1949. Dr. R.N. Simpson leaving the Hudson's Bay Company residence at Arctic Bay to climb aboard the Norseman.
