These reels treat of the principal phenomena connected with Earth and Moon - their comparative sizes; their revolutions and rotations; then a trip to the Moon to view its landscape; ending with an exposition of the Phases of the Moon. A special feature of these reels is the peculiar effect of motion in space. Both earth and moon are seen receding and approaching without other objects with which to compare their speed and size. The result is startling. Takes up the spectacular and fascinating subject of eclipses. Shows partial and total eclipses of the moon; formation of the shadows; shadow of the moon rushing across the earth at total eclipse; partial and total eclipses of the sun actually taking place; the beautiful corona of the total eclipse; an annular eclipse and its cause. The footage uses models of the moon, the sun and Earth to demonstrate the actions of these planetary bodies. It shows: full moon to last quarter; fourth phase; Earth spinning; half in darkness; moon coming from lower corner of screen; dark of the moon; animation of shadow of the Earth; close-up of Earth with North America shown; intertitle explaining that the shadow of the Earth comes to a point because Earth is much smaller than the sun; globe of light on one side of screen; small white globe on other side of screen, surrounded by dark shadows; intertitle explaining that for the same reason the moon's shadow comes to a point; medium shot of a model of the moon with shadow behind it, underneath the Earth; intertitle about eclipse's of the moon and the sun; partial eclipse of the moon; medium shot of models of the moon and sun with shadows behind them; moon begins to rotate; intertitle explaining that this is how it would be seen from space; medium shot of Earth slowly turning; moon at top of screen slowly rotating around the Earth; intertitle explaining that the moon goes into the shadow in a total eclipse; medium shot of moon and sun with their shadows; moon moving behind Earth's shadow; Earth slowly turning; moon moving from one side to the other of Earth; intertitle stating that generally the moon misses the shadow altogether; inter title signalling the end of part two; intertitle describing the dark of the moon; earth slowly turning; moon at bottom of screen; moon rotating to the right of the Earth and disappearing; rotation of Earth stopping; a pointer points to Earth from bottom right hand corner; intertitle reading "And a New Moon again - and the months roll by!". Concludes with intertitle "A Shadow over 800,000 miles long!".
