Minister of Public Works and Government Services Scott Brison addresses the Toronto Board of Trade. He reflects upon the changes made to his department since he delivered his vision speech one year ago, and discusses some of the actions being taken to deliver better and faster services to Canadians at a reduced cost to taxpayers. One problem area identified in the expenditure review process was the cost of managing office buildings. To decrease the money being spent in this area, his department has put out a request for private sector advice on how best to manage the hundreds of office buildings in their portfolio. He notes that smarter buying must be employed to save money on real estate spending, as taxpayers expect their governments to be disciplined buyers with an eye to the bottom line. The Department of Public Works and Government Services is committed to making it easier for small businesses to work with the federal government, and is also playing a leading role in the greening of government. <28mn>
