Alain Dudoit was hired by Allan J. MacEachen in 1974 to oversee the relationship between the Canadian International Development Agency and External Affairs. The records in this sub-sub-series appear to be Dudoit's working files. As such, they contain original copies of memoranda that have been forwarded to MacEachen. The memoranda are rather structured and highlight the subject, purpose and background for each memorandum forwarded to the Minister. In most instances the memoranda seek the approval and signature of the Minister. The department's responses, comments and instructions are also included on some of the documents. Canadian policy on aid matters is highlighted throughout this series. Of note in this sub-sub-series is the material relating to External Affairs' accountability in the House of Commons. These documents include questions and answers that the Minister might face in the House.
