This map depicts portions of the parishes of St. Andrews and St. Clements, to the northeast of present-day Winnipeg. As is typical of Métis settlements, the land of these parishes was originally divided into long and narrow river lots.. The "outer two miles" of river lots were used for hay and pasture and were highly contested between the Métis and later settlers. This map shows the development of settler municipalities and farmlands, with their square lot system, around and over the pre-existing Métis river lot system. This map also shows part of the original St. Peters Indian Reserve, an early reserve of Peguis First Nation, a Cree and Saulteaux First Nation., St. Andrew (on the Red) Church, also known as Lower Church, was the largest of the three early Anglican parishes of Red River Settlement. It was founded in 1829. The Anglican parish of St. Clements was founded just to the north of St. Andrew and of Lower Fort Garry in 1861.
