Description:

As more and more disabled Canadians travel for business and pleasure, the demand for rental automobiles with hand controls is also increasing. The transport Canada Advisory Committee for the Transportation of the Handicapped recognizes this need. The objective of this project is the development of a hand control system designed for quick installation and removal in rental automobiles. Fixed equipment - in other words, dedicated automobiles - appears economically impractical with the current demand level. Investigators studied the needs of potential users and automobile rental companies. They also considered the regulations and licensing requirements across Canada as well as the technical aspects of such a development. The project will culminate in the manufacture and functional testing of a prototype. <5mn>
