The files in this sub-series is a relatively large collection of subject files on the issues being dealt with by the Department of Finance in the early 1980s and the day to day workings of the Minister's Office. The files have been identified as working files because they had not been assigned a file classification code or placed in departmental file jacket. Moreover, the files in this sub-series have not been linked to any of the prominent executive staff in the Minister's Office. As such, they provided a complementary resource to staff working for Allan J. MacEachen outside of the formal file classification system of the Minister's Office. Included in this extensive sub-series are files on budgets, MacEachen's travel, the International Monetary Fund, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Parliamentary business, Ministerial meetings, energy, the various summits, copies of the Minister's speaking notes, Canada-US relations and foreign nuclear defense policy.
