While some of the files date from an earlier period, this sub-series essentially spans the period when Pearl Hunter worked as the office administrator for Allan J. MacEachen during his tenure as President of the Privy Council. Moreover, while the files in this sub-series are identified as being Pearl Hunter's working files, they are in fact, as is the case with other Pearl Hunter sub-series, MacEachen's office working files, created by staff working in his office, but maintained and managed by Hunter. The files presented here represent the full gamut of responsibilities and activities associated with the President's office, including files on various bills, broadcasting Parliament, Cabinet meetings, conferences attended by the Minister, correspondence with the Prime Minister and other House leaders, House business, the Legislative Program, the Liberal Party, Conflict of Interest issues, parliamentary matters, Nova Scotia, multilateral trade negotiations, speeches, the Public Service Staff Relations Board and the Northern Pipeline. Most notably, however, in this sub-series are files that contain memoranda to the Minister from staff members and parliamentarians such as Basil Robinson, Alain Dudoit, Jim Coutts, Joyce Fairbairn, Ralph Goodale, Ted Van Dusen, J. Yanover and others.

General note:

There are multiple caches of records managed by Pearl Hunter throughout this fonds. Hunter worked with MacEachen when he worked in Lester Pearson's Office of the Official Opposition, joined him as an office administrator in the Minister of Labour's Ministerial Office and worked him until she retired in 1994.
