This sub-series is composed of coded subject files, arranged in a block file classification system. There are file blocks reserved for federal government departments and agencies, another for companies, associations and boards, one for issues, one for correspondence, another for visits and finally, one for elections. Notably, included are a large number of "Invitations" from 1980, when Allan J. MacEachen was first named Minister of Finance, after the Liberal election victory in that year. The invitations provide evidence of party events following the successful return of Liberals to power, grassroots politics, organizations of importance to MacEachen, social history and the Minister's activities and schedules.

As with most of his series, the content moves at different levels: there are files at the international level, as well as national, then provincial, very Nova Scotia-centric and finally local, personal issues of constituents and local community needs. Diverse levels of political activity and engagement are reflected in this series.

This sub-series spans a number of ministries, President of the Privy Council (1970-1974), Secretary of State for External Affairs (1974-1976) and again President of the Privy Council (1976-1979). The files are locked into one coded structure and so, out of respect for original order have been left as a unit, with the Secretary of State for External Affairs files nested between the two terms as President of the Privy Council.

Interestingly, this sub-series of coded files came to Library and Archives Canada in "Ministry of Finance" file jackets; it is not known if the files in this sub-series were re-sleeved into new file jackets at a later date, perhaps in 1980-1982, when Allan J. MacEachen was Minister of Finance, or if his office simply used empty "Ministry of Finance" file jackets in 1979. Regardless of who coded and re-jacketed this material and when it happened, this is yet another example of a MacEachen series or sub-series being carried over from one ministry to another.

This sub-series has been retained as it had been organized in MacEachen's office, being organized primarily by file number and then alphabetically within each file block.
